Hi guys. So I’m made a Book tag and this book tag was inspired by, I was watching Leslie at the Nerdy Narrative’s YouTube video a couple of days ago, and she was doing a book hall where she was smelling her books. I was like I smell all my books too. So, I decided to come up with The Smell Test Book Tag.
So here we go.
New Bookstore Smell
New bookstore smell like heaven. All the brand new books that have the brand new bookstore smell. And when you just walk in, just take, take a deep breath in and it’s heaven.
What series have you fallen in love with this year?
I choose The Broken Empire by Mark Lawrence. The Broken Empire follows Jorg, who is a character that you are not meant to like at all. He’s selfish, arrogant and brutal. But that’s the part of what I love about him. Jorg brings a lot of arrogant, witty dialogue. He gets out of tough situations in a Captain Jack Sparrow kind of way, which is extremely entertaining to me. I loved to hate Jorg in The Broken Empire series and I really rooted for him not to win at all. But I couldn’t put the books down to see what was going to happen next. There seems to be controversy around this series because Jorg is not a likable character. Definitely investigate your triggers on this series because there are some triggers that happen in the series.
Used Book Store Smell.
Used bookstores smell like new books mixed with old books and it’s a different sort of happy place. You might find that one book that you’ve been really wanting, but don’t want to spend 30 bucks on a brand new or don’t want to buy brand new. Cause you’re not a hundred percent sure you’re going to like it. But you can maybe find it for two bucks at the used bookstore. Yeah. It’s a different sort of happy place to me. It’s like the musky books smell mixed in the new book smell and it’s just a different sort of heaven.
What book or series do you consider a hidden gem?
And this series for me is Elemental Mysteries by Elizabeth Hunter. The first book in the series is A Hidden Fire by Elizabeth Hunter. She is an indie author. Who’s an automatic buy for me. I love everything she’s put out. There’s only one series of hers that I have not read before.
The Elemental Mysteries series is a paranormal romance with vampires who can use elemental magic. The couple in this series is Beatrice, a college student studying library science, working at her college library. And Giovanni is a vampire, but he also researches collects very old books. The plot of the series is about a set of books that was thought was completely destroyed or lost forever. The first couple of books is a slow burn romance and is a lot about the relationships between Giovanni and Beatrice. Then as you read further into the series, it gets to be more plot-driven of the politics of the vampire world.
I fell in love with this entire world and all of the characters in this series. And I have read and reread this series multiple times.
Libraries have a distinct smell. It’s less about the smell, but the smell brings back, school, and studying and test, and it brings back a sort of sense of anxiety. But it also brings a sense of happiness. I go to the library now, not to find books to study. But to find a huge stack of books that I am going to read. It also has a sense of like excitement.
What books do you and your friends trade back and forth?
My friend and I both read Sherrilyn Kenyon. And she is always a couple of books ahead of me. So I usually borrow books from her.
The Dark-Hunter by Sherrilyn Kenyon. I would take your average paranormal romance and notch it up a couple of scales or 10. Depending on how you feel. She takes the darkness up to a whole new level. So if you like extremely dark brutal stories with a lot of an additional layer of smut. Then these are the books for you. I would start with Fantasy Lover.

Check your trigger warnings, definitely check your trigger warnings. There have been some cringey parts where I’m like, Oh my gosh. And I read with one eye open. Definitely do your research before you go into this author. Plus, I think she’s up to book 25, 26. So it’s a huge commitment. I’ve been reading The Dark-Hunter series for 10 years.
What kind of book do you always check out from the library and read before you buy it?
New Hard Back Book Cover Smell
Hard backs don’t have a distinct smell like the new paperbacks new paperbacks to me. Paper backs have this vibrant new book, smell new hard backs. They do have a new book smell, but not as vibrant to me. I get a little disappointed and I should know by now. Right. Usually when I buy a hard backs it’s because it’s a brand new book that I just don’t want to wait for the paperback to come out. It’s super exciting. It’s super anticipated. I crack it open, take a sniff. And almost nothing.
What book have you read where you were expecting one thing but got something totally different?
Written In Red by Anne Bishop. I went into thinking it was going to be a romance between Meg and Simon and I was wrong. Well, maybe not wrong. I’m having completely finished the series. But if, if this is a romance story, this is the slowest burn romance story of my life. I have read slow burn, but this takes slow burn to a whole new level. As far as I can see, there’s hint, hint, hint, hint of romance. But there’s zero action.

What I did get was a huge world, huge back history, politics and war.
I loved the world and I’m going to finish the series. But I was expecting a romance.
New Paperback Books.
My absolute favorite paperback books. Most of them to me have a vibrant, amazing smell. It is my favorite. That’s my ambiance for reading, cracking a new paperback, having that smell and just, it just puts me in a nice relaxing reading mood.
Where is your perfect reading place?
Mine is honestly at the beach. We usually go to the beach every year to the West coast. Love sitting on, on the beach. Now, Washington coastline, where we go, it’s not the most sunny place. It’s actually pretty cloudy all the time. I love going on the beach and having the misty windy, cloudy, beachy, oceany smell. Just sitting there with my feet covered in sand, my kids and my dogs and my husband playing around and just kind of hanging and chilling. It’s my happy place at home. It’s anywhere that it’s quiet. I usually read in the recliner and I have this like cool little lamp over there. That’s where I usually read here or in bed or wherever.
Used Book Smell
use book smell can be interesting. Sometimes they don’t smell the greatest. Sometimes you a good musty old book smell, but more often than that, it’s not amazingness.
What book do you not like the cover but love the book?
Interview With a Vampire by Anne rice. I don’t like this cover. It’s it’s an old type, you know, old type of cover. But honestly, I can’t remember if I’ve read this. I’ve seen the movie. I can’t count how many times I’ve seen the movie. But I can’t remember if I’ve actually read this.
