So I have decided to start a new series with my adventures of hiking. A friend and I have started hiking a couple of weeks ago in the lovely Pacific North West. I honestly don’t know why we started hiking in the fall, probably not the best time to start an outdoor activity, but we have to start somewhere. We are also from the Seattle area and rain really doesn’t bother us much. You’ll see lots of hooded rain coats pictures soon, but rain or shine we will be out there. I doubt that these post will be Essential Oil related, but I’m finding out that hiking is so hard that it is hard not to write about it.
To start off, I am not a hiker! Sunday was the 3rd time I’ve been hiking in my adult life, so I really don’t know how to do this. So if your are a serious hiker and your reading this, I promise these post will be comical for you. I will make rookie mistakes and make sure to post about them.
First rookie mistake. Who knew there were bugs in the woods. Yep, this girl did not think about it. Nope not at all. I have 4 bites on the small little part of leg that was exposed. See that there, that is not a lot of bare leg. 4 little buggers found them to be a feast. But I’ve learned now, and I’ve got spray ready for them. OK so maybe I can work in essential oils here and there. My plan for those little pesky bugs next Sunday is TerraSheild. It’s already blended so I can just rub in on any part exposed. Then for the spray I’ll use Lemongrass, Lavender, and Geranuim. Drop these into a glass spray bottle with water and spray over your clothing. I’ll let you know how that gos. I also have myself covered for today, a long time ago I made a bug bite blend. This was back when I wasn’t writing my blends down, so I have no idea whats in it, but it seems to be working.
5 Things that I have learned about this hiking trip…..
1. Walking Up Hill Is No Joke.
I thought when I agreed to start these hiking adventures that it would be fairly easy. I know some of you are laughing right now. Seriously was only thinking of how many steps I could rack up with walking in the woods. I wasn’t thinking it would be an actual cardio work out.
2. I am carrying a back pack that is way too big!
The other ladies that I began to hike with but couldn’t keep up with, had this amazing back pack that I had no idea existed. It was small but it had just enough room for her stuff. It also had a water bladder with a tube that came over the shoulder so she could drink water when ever she needed without stopping. I was in love!! I ordered one on amazon as soon as I got home. I’ll let you know how I like it next week.
3. I love hiking down hill!
Hiking up hill is just not my thing. I can’t breathe, everything starts to hurt. You go slower so it gives bugs time to bite you.
4.You see some really beautiful nature.
Nature in itself is beautiful to me, but then you get to see cool things like this. Looks like an upside down giraffe to me.
5. If your aunt flow is in town, those little doggy pooper baggies come in handy. I’ll just leave that there.
So in closing. Hiking is hard but its really rewarding. There is something about getting out in nature that helps clear the stress and helps you come back to life with a fresh look. We are going hiking again next week. We plan on taking the kids, and my new back pack so I’ll let ya know how that ends. For now enjoy pictures of the water fall!
